New REsident Information
Shelby Place is an in-town Highlands community, meaning the town provides electric, water, sewer and trash pickup services, billed monthly by the town. Trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays, generally after 9 AM. Bear-proof curbside trash toters are required by the town, to be compatible with current trash collection vehicles.
The individuals who are on the Shelby Place Association Inc. Board of Directors and on supporting committees are volunteers and supply their time freely to serve neighbors. The more involvement by association members, the less burden on a few.
Invoices are emailed quarterly from the association’s outsourced Financials to Cedar Creek Management Company. Payments can be made directly to Cedar Creek on behalf of neighborhood dues through - https://cedarcreek.appfolio.com/connect/users/sign_in. These invoices are issued to facilitate collection of dues, fees, assessments. Shelby Place Neighborhood PO Box information is - SHELBY PLACE ASSOCIATION, INC. P.O. BOX 301 HIGHLANDS, NC 28741. All communications regarding these quarterly invoices must be directed to the treasurer (John Sheehan), as well as Cedar Creek Management Services.
The treasurer work with Cedar Creek Management Services to pay association recurring bills for items such as entrance utilities, grounds maintenance, association insurance policy charges, as well as non-recurring charges for private road maintenance, tree services, required supplies and other miscellaneous items.
Our current vendor for grounds keeping services, Yardmonger Redhawk, mows and blows common areas and homeowner grass areas and driveways during the growing season at least every other week. Services in winter months are limited to “as needed.”
The Shelby Place green space common area near the front of the neighborhood has a pickle ball court, bocce ball court, basketball goal and a fire pit with chairs. These are for use by members and their guests only. Please be aware the home, the grounds, driveway, & parking area near the front of the neighborhood is private property and should not be entered unless given permission by the owners.
At the cul-de-sac on Shelby Court, there is a three-sided tall wooden bin for collection of small yard waste (organic clippings and prunings). The bin is picked up by Yardmonger and trucked to the county landfill for a fee charged to the association. It is for use by our members only and shall only be filled with biodegradable materials.
There is a trail from the end of Williamsburg Court to Highway 106 that allows members access to the Highlands Decorating Center at 330 Dillard Road and the future sidewalk for access to other businesses on Dillard Road. Walking to other locations on Dillard Road and on Walhalla Road is not currently recommended due to the lack of sidewalks.
